Apologies as it`s been a while since the blog was updated. It`s been a been busy time or it may just be that I haven`t made the time. Anyway the weather has had a slow start to Spring but has changed quite dramatically in the last couple of weeks. The Sun has been shining for the last two weeks and it has been great to have such a good start. As usual for the time of year and although we`ve had a lot of sun there is still snow on Ben Wyvis. One of the unique things about the Highlands is that we can have `snow on the Ben` and moor and forest fires all around. We are actually now needing rain to help put out the fires and to stop the garden drying to dust and as either good luck or `sods law` would have it we have had it all day.
We have had some great opportunities for photography with some atmospheric landscapes like the one on the right. Typical Highland scenery with the low heavy clouds, rain showers rushing through the Lens and the sun breaking through in the small gap between the hilltops and the cloud base.

The river Shin
Even with the lack of rain so far for the time of year there is still plenty of water in the rivers. I was lucky enough to have a day out at the Shin falls on the river Shin up near Lairg. It was a sociable day and not a work one which makes it that much nicer. This is a great place to watch fish running up through the river. They are always held in the pool you can see to the bottom right of the picture and this makes for a great chance to capture them leaping up the falls. It`s a bit early in the year still for fish to be running in any numbers but we did manage to see one in the pool when we were there. We also watched a pair of pied wagtails in the river. Most likely they were looking to build a nest somewhere along the river bank but they treated us to a show of chasing each other and splashing about in some of the small pools.

Unusually for this early in the year we have had some really nice sunsets. We can often have some really good sunrises but good sunsets are rarer. I have been lucky enough to have taken several `sunset` photographs but the colour of the sky in the photograph on the right was completely as we saw it. It was a really deep orange for so early in the year.  An ideal end to a beautiful day.
The weather has changed now and today for the first time in weeks we have had rain. More is forecast for what look likes the foreseeable future. Back to normal then. Mind you if it wasn`t for the rain it wouldn`t be as green. Saves me watering the garden too.
Hopefully the weather of late is a sign of things to come. I say hopefully because if the last 2 years are anything to go by then the next few months pictures might be of rain. Until next time.
